150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg
RRB Countdown to the 150th Gettysburg Event
START MAKING YOUR PLANS TO ATTEND!!!

Welcome to the Red River Battalion!

The Red River Battalion (RRB) is a Texas based battalion-level progressive reenacting organization dedicated to the accurate portrayal of soldiers during the American Civil War.

Although the majority of our battalion membership hails from Texas, our core impression is that of a generic Confederate battalion in the Western Theater during mid-war. Our secondary impression, when called to fight for the Union (called galvanizing), is similarly that of a Federal battalion. We believe that to honor those who fought you must be willing to portray both sides.

We strive to function as a strict military organization and have no official civilian contingent. We conduct company level and battalion drill from manuals of the period and execute tactics on the field. The events we attend range from small local events, to the largest of national reenactments; from public demonstrations and living histories, to challenging immersive tacticals. We are frequently invited by the National Park Service to conduct living history events on National Battlefield Parks and have participated in several movie productions.

Our goal is not to re-fight or glorify the war, but to understand it as best we can and help educate others along the way. History books about the war and those who fought it can only educate so far. To truly attempt to learn about the soldiers and battles of the period you must put yourself in their shoes. Only then can you come even remotely close to understanding the sights, sounds, smells, hardships, and camaraderie the soldiers experienced during the war. Anyone interested in accurately emulating these experiences and preserving the history of the period is encouraged to become a member of our organization.

We hope you will take time to review the pages of this site to learn more about or battalion and what it has to offer. Within, you will find more information about the RRB, the events we attend, the equipment we use, and the battalion’s current news, as well as see pictures of us in action. In addition, we hope you will visit our recruiting page and consider joining us for a truly unique experience. Participation in the hobby opens a view into the past and will create friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
